Overview

EOT (Embedded OpenType) was Microsoft's proprietary web font format introduced in 1997 for Internet Explorer. It provided compression and basic DRM features to address font licensing concerns.

EOT was the only web font format supported by Internet Explorer until version 9. With IE 11 reaching end of life and all modern browsers supporting WOFF/WOFF2, EOT is now considered a legacy format.

While EOT files are rarely needed today, conversion support remains important for maintaining older websites or working with archived web content.
