Overview
Type 11 fonts use CID (Character Identifier) keying to handle large character sets efficiently, particularly for Chinese, Japanese, and Korean (CJK) typography. CID fonts separate character codes from glyph indices, allowing more flexible encoding.
This format has been largely replaced by OpenType's superior CJK support, but Type 11 fonts may still be encountered in professional publishing workflows or legacy systems.
