Overview
Type 42 fonts are PostScript font programs that wrap TrueType outline data. This hybrid format was created to allow TrueType fonts (which use quadratic curves) to be used in PostScript printers and workflows that expect PostScript fonts.
Type 42 maintains TrueType's outline format while providing a PostScript-compatible interface. Today, OpenType fonts with TrueType outlines serve the same purpose with better features.
